I am not sure what direction I will take on
this Mix and Match Sampler quilt. It is possible that I may go
up to 30 blocks and make a large quilt. The blocks to the right are all hand
quilted and measure 12.5 inches. They will be 12-inch blocks in a finished
quilt. The blocks to the left are machine pieced and measure exactly 12-inches
which means the block will be 11.5 inches in a finished quilt. Size varies
between patterns, and I have noticed that machine blocks that are cut by using a
Rotary Cutter for machine quilting, seem to measure 1/2 inch smaller.
This is going to be my quilting design wall and
as you can see, the blocks are affixed to the wall, using masking tape.
Eventually, I will figure out how to create a better wall!
The wall quilt in the center of the blocks, is one that I made in the 90's following a Teach Yourself to Quilt book. I am using old fabrics, including leftovers from this quilt, and selecting fabric from my stash of which some pieces are very old. I do purchase new fabrics now and then to help complete a design.
For sure the Mix and Match quilt blocks are
designed and pieced using old and new fabrics. The rest is to be determined.
All I can say is WOW!!!
ReplyDeleteThe blocks are so inspirational.
