A few blocks have been pieced and added to the Mix & Match Design Wall.
Peony
For the Hand Pieced Mix & Match Design wall, I completed the Peony which is a combination of piecing and applique. This pattern came from an old book by Diana Leone and it is really challenging. I am a little out of practice with the applique technique but so love the appliqued blocks. The fabric that I used is from a stash that was sent to me for masking making a year ago and a template was used for all of the pieces.
Once I started piecing this block, I realized that the print is a polyester blend! Ugggh! In 80's this type of fabric was used for quilting but it is difficult to stitch by hand. Cotton is better for quilting overall. This is the risk when quilting from old fabrics and unknown fabric sources. In this case, I made a decision to go with it and will definitely make this block again.
