Swan Quilt Wall Hanging

The Swan Quilt is off the Get 'er Done list. Yah!

I have always been a hand quilter but with arthritis in my right hand now, sewing and piecing by hand can sometimes cause problems. Last year I decided to take a beginner sewing machine quilting class at the Blue Hen Quilt Shop to learn more about machine piecing techniques. There were just three students in the class, and it was taught by the shop owner. Everyone brought their own fabrics for the project.

I thought the instructions might be too easy for me, but this was not a beginner, beginner level class. Instructions covered rotary cutting, how to handle raveling edges, pressing, machine piecing, layering, and pinning the completed quilt top, sewing on the band and machine quilting to finish. This is a great beginner quilter project encompassing seven common quilt blocks; Log Cabin, Rail Fence, Flying Geese, Square Dance, Nine Patch, Double Nine Patch and Friendship Star.

I was so inspired and freed from old beliefs about sewing machine quilting. My finished sewing machine quilt is not perfect, but I learned so much. Awesome class!
