Sisters Quilting Lessons Learned - Mid's New Ohio Star

We are adjusting our blocks for the machine pieced Mix and Match Sampler Quilt. The 1/4-inch seam really needs to be “scant” 1/4 inch to achieve a completed 12 1/2-inch sampler block that is needed for accurate alignment of the 12-inch finished block sampler quilt.

Our blocks pattern sources are quilting books and online block patterns. We put this design together, block by block with a goal of completing a Mix and Match Sampler Quilt consisting of 12-inch blocks that are traditional quilting designs. It has been a learning experience in terms of accurately cutting and ensuing the correct seam when machine piecing.

We have both used two or three different machines and different quilting feet! In the end, it is crucial to check the 1/4-inch seam throughout machine piecing. After completing the block, it is important to size up the block with a quilt square tool to ensure the block measures 12 ½ inches.

We have both corrected a few blocks and/or made new ones. Here is Mid's new Ohio Star!
