Making this small Oriole Bird quilt for Robert, gave me the opportunity to work with applique products. I really want to do sewing machine applique but do not love sewing machine applique stitching. Although I really prefer to applique by hand, I decided to use my new Janome Sewing Machine and played with the embroidery stiches, using a few of them in this piece. In planning the finishing, I decided to go with a narrow border using brown fabric, to frame the block and green print Batik for the border. Instead of quilting the pieced block, I chose to stitch around the bird and did Free Motion quilting using the Meander pattern on the border.
Overall,
my Free Motion quilting technique with the Meander pattern had improved.
This
Oriole Bird kit and the fabrics used to make this wall hanging, are from Spring
Water Design Quilt shop in Columbia Maryland.
