Gelato Quilt

Mid and I are on to the next quilt, the Gelato.  This one is very colorful and should be a quick sew but we have already encountered problems with the pattern instructions. To begin with, we had trouble finding the fabric. The quilt and fabrics were designed by Valori Wells and the fabric is by Robert Kaufman Fabrics. I have not seen anything recent from this designer.

This pattern is in Quilt Trends Magazine, Summer 2014. Finding the fabric was fun except costly as we did have to order one large Fat Quarter bundle from Australia! They are mix and match blocks from the Quill fabrics collection...so pretty! We were lucky to find enough of what we need for both of our quilts. We were able to order various cuts during random searches.

The strips and setting triangle borders are by Kona, Berry and Pomegranate which are still in print. We have noticed a few issues with instructions, which is annoying, but at the same time we are very grateful to the designer for making the pattern available! We can figure out these little issues! After our experience with Lavender Fields, we have come to realize that these magazine patterns may not be problem free. The result will be worth it, I am sure!

  1. I'm ready to start a new project. Such a unique quilt. I'm glad that we were able to find the fabrics.

  2. I managed to cut 20 bird print blocks, a bird in each block!
