I recently took a short trip to North
Carolina. The weather was perfect for traveling and I very much enjoyed
spending time with family.
One of the highlights of my trip was
spending the entire day quilting with my sister Mildred. We both love to quilt!
I got to try her two fabulous sewing machines, Bernina, and Juki! We shared our
respective quilting tools and tips. Rotary cutting the blocks took a good bit
of time. These are machine pieced blocks and cutting accuracy is key.
After looking through a bunch of block
patterns, Mid decided that she would make the Navajo and I decided on the Maple
Leaf, 12-inches finished blocks. Both blocks look much easier to make than they
are. I made a mistake on my Maple Leaf block, so I put it aside and we both
focused on machine piecing the Navajo block. After putting the seam rippers to
use, picking out a couple of sections, we finally were able to lay the pieces together
correctly.
It was a wonderful quilting day. Mid
finished her Navajo block the next morning. My Maple Leaf is still waiting
though.
