My goal is to sew all
rows together by the end of this week, including the half triangles at the top
and bottom. This means joining the bottom diamonds to the last row, then the
half triangles at the top and bottom rows. I will then sew thirteen rows of
blocks and add side, top and bottom borders to complete the quilt top.
Typically, when adding
the top to a block, you can sew the diamond shape and pivot at the point, then
continue stitching to join the top and sides. I decided to cut my thread
between the points, back tacking and then sewing the other side. My new machine
makes this easier with back stitch and auto cutting functions I
could choose to pivot at the point and continue stitching if I wanted to.
In that case, it would help to sew a tiny stitch across, halfway through the
pivot, then continue pivoting and stitching the rest the diamond to join the
top to the sides. The tiny stitch should help eliminate puckering. Every
quilter finds their own best method.
Diamonds take time and
patience, and they make beautiful tumble blocks!
