I am flying solo on the Sampler II Quilt project. This one will be known as the Turquoise Quilt. Since I never tire of working on Sampler Quilts, and already had fabric to start, I jumped right into it the 2nd week of January. My intention was to use bold earth colors but that became a challenge. I found that matching other colors to the deep turquoise color was difficult and that color can be overwhelming. What was in my head for design did not look great in a quilt block. I had committed to using this color as much as possible so I am trying to trust my plan.
The quilt is progressing
quickly, despite my “designing” snafu. I am taking a traditional
approach with this quilt using lighter background fabric for each block. When I
am stuck on a particular block, I just hop on over to the Blue Hen Quilt Shop
nearby and get something new to make another block. I am amazed that I
have completed sixteen blocks already since early January.
There is quilting
designing software now that can be used by everyday quilters like me who see
quilts in their heads and need to put them on paper. I am definitely
looking into getting the software at some point. That will be a lot easier and faster than sketching with color pencils.
I am still not quite sure where I am going with this quilt. I have tried to incorporate
blocks that I have never made before including adding some applique blocks,
sewn by machine. I was thinking that perhaps this could be a Throw
with 16 blocks but maybe I am not yet tired of making blocks for this sampler😊. I might go up to 20 blocks for a full size bed quilt.
We’ll see.
I love the new sampler. My favorite block is the Cross and Crown.
ReplyDeleteI am considering making this a 24 block quilt or maybe 30? It will give me the opportunity to do some sewing machine applique.
