For anyone interested in making either the Lavender Field or Gelato quilts, the patterns can be found in Quilt Trends Magazine, Summer 2014. This magazine features several nice quilts, but this company is now out of business. I was able to find a copy on eBay.
Mildred and I have been concerned about quilt pattern instructions found in
some old magazines, but we love many of the designs. It is very hard to find
the original fabrics as most are out of print (OOP).
We found that re-writing the cutting instructions into a Word document was
helpful. We had to talk through some issues while working on the Lavender
Field and the Gelato quilts. It is helpful to be
experienced in sewing and quilting. These are not beginner level projects and
some problem solving is needed.
I will be happy to share the Word document, cutting instructions if
requested but highly recommend using the actual magazines when possible. The
designs are excellent, but the instructions can be challenging.
I love using older magazines for quilt projects.
ReplyDeleteBoth of these quilt designs have been an inspiration to take on new challenges.
The final results are gonna make it quite rewarding after fighting through confusing or not so clear instructions.
Overall I love the designs form both of them and it looks like they are still designing quilts.
I try to ensure that credit is always given to designers when I use their patterns. A picture of the magazine will be posted soon, in case someone wants to shop for it.
ReplyDeleteI might take a look at some of their more recent designs after I catch up. Also, just to be sure that I am understanding, down the road, I might repeat the Lavender Field. I enjoyed the tube process and the Sprigs blocks but not the baskets!
ReplyDeleteI didn't enjoy making the baskets either. Setting triangles was difficult.
